PROJECT ELEMENTS

South County Terminal

The South County Terminal is the most important capital element of our Ferry Plan as it will serve as “home-base” for our ferry fleet and the administrative headquarters for ferry operations. The terminal is also the critical element for making the connections in South County for both the MacDill AFB Commuter and Intercity Ferry Service.

The South County Terminal will be located just north of the western terminus of Big Bend Road on industrial property being donated to Hillsborough County by the Mosaic Company under a long-term lease. This location will allow us to make use of the deep-water channels that serve the Big Bend industrial area. The South County Terminal will be used exclusively for ferry transportation.

The South County Terminal will feature a sustainably designed, modern terminal that will include a ticketing area, ferry administrative offices, restrooms and small passenger concession area. There will also be a large, outdoor passenger waiting area. Tickets will be available by kiosk or in-person sales, though online ticket purchases will be encouraged.

The South County Terminal will feature a park-and-ride lot to accommodate at least 1,200 cars. The design also includes bus loading areas, passenger drop off/pick up areas, and preferential parking areas for van-pools and carpools. The South County Terminal Plan is sufficiently flexible to allow easy re-configuration and adaption to accommodate future transit service in South County.

Access to the South County Terminal will be via a new access road built from Wynadotte to the terminal. The roadway design will also incorporate a wide walking/biking trail for eventual connection to the Suncoast/Sunshine trail being planned by Hillsborough County.
